The Battle of Sweet River was a minor engagement of the Take Command War. It was Fort Braxx's first defense line, with Isaac Trimble's 875 men defending against Northern Cavalry and 2 Northern regiments. On 9:17 a.m., on February 22, 1861, two Union Cavalry battalions crossed Sweet River and attacked Trimble's brigade. They were immeditally repelled with nearly 35 casualties; compared to only 7 for Trimble's Brigade. They halted the attack for 30 minutes, by then it started raining. They launched one regiment in an assault but due to lack of morale, retreated after 4 casualties.
